Hospice Care: The Right Care at The Right Time • July 15th, 2015

Presented by Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in conjunction with A Place for Mom and Hospice of New York. WHAT: Join us on July 15, 2015 with presenter Dr. Lauren Shaiova, MD for “Hospice Care: The Right Care at the Right Time.” In New York State, the median length of stay on Hospice is 9-17 days, and Hospice is intended as a benefit for patients during the final six months of life. This presentation will familiarize Nurse Case Managers, Hospital Discharge Planners and Medical Social Workers with the criteria for making a timely referral to Hospice, allowing patients and their loved ones to take full advantage of these comprehensive and compassionate services. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Dr. Lauren Shaiova, MD is the Chief of the Department of Palliative Medicine at NYU Lutheran Medical Center and a Hospice Physician for Hospice of New York. She is certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine as well as Pain Management, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Having completed her fellowship training in Pain Medicine and Palliative Care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Dr. Shaiova is affiliated with the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital and St. Christopher’s Hospice in London, England. Dr. Shaiova is particularly proud of her leadership in care for patients with sickle cell anemia and persons living with HIV/AIDS. She has volunteered her services from Nicaragua to Haiti and South Africa to Ghana and has taught or spoken at innumerable conferences and seminars. She is a visiting faculty member at The Graduate School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan; the Medical School of Zimbabwe; and the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. “Dr. Lauren Shaiova is a superb clinician and speaker.
