Eric Goldstein, the new CEO of UJA Federation, toured the Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Monday 2/09/15. Mr. Goldstein met with Michael Fassler, Pres./ CEO of CenterLight, Yoel Lichstein, Executive Director, Sheva Turk, Associate Administrator, and Linda Spiegel, Director of Public Affairs. As a UJA member facility, Mr. Goldstein wanted to see and hear first-hand about the many programs and clinical services available and provided to seniors in need at Margaret Tietz. UJA/Federation funding has helped to support outreach to the Jewish community in terms of the off-site Shabbos Apartment, holiday services and celebrations, and continued outreach to senior centers and seniors in the community with the provision of health education and informative seminars.

On January 22, 2015 Margaret Tietz held a Resident Care Technician Graduation for those who chose to take the extra step in their career. Only some rose to the challenge which included extensive education classes, tests, and quality training in order to become certified. The event was well attended by those who came to show their support for the 14 graduates. The graduates received a certificate and a new name badge. We are so proud of their hard work and commitment. Congratulations to all!

The annual Legislative Breakfast was held by the Queens Jewish Community Council at the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills. This event was well attended by legislators, NYC Controller Scott Stringer, Borough President Melinda Katz, Congresswoman Grace Meng, State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, Rabbi’s, representatives from the police department, and other community leaders. Margaret Tietz/Centerlight sponsored the event.

On Sunday December 28th, Achiezer held an event called Elder Care II at the LaGuardia Plaza Hotel. The event was extremely well attended with Seniors and Caregivers from Queens, Brooklyn, the Five Towns and Far Rockaway. Our information was prominently displayed, many questions answered and materials distributed. This was an important event for the hundreds that attended.

Chanukah Bags individually wrapped with pens and Chanukah Gelt were distributed to seniors to enhance the Chanukah Spirit.

Margaret Tietz participated in two additional community Chanukah Celebrations. We provided latkes and a variety of donuts for the Young Israel of Holliswood Senior Center and attended the Chabad of Rego Park’s Chanukah Celebration for the Russian Community.

On December 18, 2014 we held our annual Margaret Tietz Staff Holiday Party. Delicious food was served which not only included food made from our own kitchen, but kosher sushi for everyone to enjoy. Entertainment was provided by one of our very talented maintenance staff members. Raffles prizes were raffled and gifts were given to honor those who have been with Margaret Tietz for many years.

Margaret Tietz held a very festive Chanukah Celebration for the Young Israel of Queens Valley Senior League on December 17, 2014. More than 100 guests enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by our famous Chef Yosef along with wonderful entertainment provided by Doug Leblang.

Margaret Tietz Center hosted its’ annual family Chanukah Party on December 23, 2014, the last night of Chanukah. Entertainment was provided by a previous rehab. patients’ grandson, Morty Estersohn, to the delight of everyone. Our Staff Rabbi, Rabbi Pearlman, led the event with the lighting of the menorah. Residents and many family members enjoyed the Chanukah festivities by dancing, eating those delicious latkes with lots of applesauce, and of course a variety of donuts.
